Luis Y. Aragón

For nearly seventy years, Luis Y. Aragón’s work has become known and collected throughout Europe and the Americas, including in his homeland of Mexico. In early 2023, he was preparing to publish his autobiography and the opening of his foundation through the support of the Universidad Autónoma of Chihuahua. In June 2024, Quinta Gameros hosted a lecture presentation of Aragón’s autobiography, Pinté fragmentos de ayeres y de sueños (I Painted Fragments of Yesterday and of Dreams).

When we visited Quinta Gameros at the end of May 2024, the second floor had gallery space dedicated to the work of artist Luis Ygnacio Aragón Valladares. Aragón was born in 1930 in Chihuahua, the capital city of the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. His art studies took him to “La Esmeralda” in Mexico City (Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado). Aragón is a contemporary painter, sculptor, poet, teacher, and now, author.

Below are five photographs I took at Quinta Gameros of Luis Y. Aragón’s work from his series Angeles Oniricos.
